Respite Program
PARC
works collaboratively with the Office of Mental Health and the Office of
Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities to provide respite for
families caring for disabled family members at home. Both state agencies
provide funding to enable PARC to provide respite support to children and
adults with developmental disabilities or mental health issues, who live at
home with their families in Putnam County.
The respite program is also supported by grants from United Way and Rite Aid.
These respite services are person-centered in focus and are
family directed, providing caregivers a temporary break from care-giving
responsibilities.
Depending
on needs and eligibility, assistance includes recruiting, hiring, and training
qualified sitters, reimbursing families for sitter services for limited hours
on a monthly basis, and/or coordinating free weekend stays for caregivers at
area hotels. The program also provides information and referral services as
needed.
